2007 honda cr-v review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New and improved for 2007. introductionthe new, 2007 honda cr-v is more powerful, more stylish and more comfortable than the previous-generation 2006 models. The latter comes trimmed in leather and can be fitted with an optional navigation system that incorporates a rearview video camera for safe and easy backing. The transmission is a new, five-speed automatic. Real time all-wheel drive is offered on all three models. Epa rates the front-wheel drive cr-v at 23/30 city/highway miles per gallon and the all-wheel drive at 22/28.  inside, compared with the 2006 cr-v, there's slightly more room in the front seat and slightly less room in the rear seat, except hiproom, which is up by about an inch. There's also marginally more cargo room. Everything by way of instruments, controls and storage is, respectively, logically arrayed, properly placed and reasonably plentiful.  in terms of safety, the new cr-v is fully featured. In addition to the required three-point seatbelts at all five seating positions and front seat airbags, people protection includes front seat-mounted side airbags, front and rear seat side air curtains with roll-over sensors and front seat active head restraints (which work to reduce whiplash in rear impacts). For crash avoidance, antilock brakes, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution and vehicle stability assist with traction control are all standard.  as for how the '07 cr-v stacks up against the competition, well, in a number of ways, it could do better. The mazda cx-7, which seats five, is more fun to drive and to look at. There's one engine, a 166-horsepower inline-4, and one transmission, a five-speed automatic. Gps-based navigation system with voice recognition and rearview camera 2000) is optional on the ex-l.  honda-approved accessories available from dealers (installation price set by dealers) include wheel locks 54); attachments/racks for bicycle 128), kayak 160), skis 139) and surfboard 75); roof box 299); auto-dim inside mirror with compass 225); amplified bass speaker system 315); and backup sensors 259).  safety features that come standard include the required three-point seatbelts at all five seating positions, front airbags and child safety seat anchors (latch), front seat-mounted side airbags (to minimize upper body injuries in side impacts); roof-mounted, front and rear seat side air curtains (to minimize head injuries in side impacts and rollovers); and front-seat active head restraints (to minimize neck injuries in rear impacts).  for crash avoidance there are antilock brakes (which let the driver steer during panic stops); electronic brake-force distribution (which optimize brake application during emergency stops); brake assist (which senses impending emergency brake application and boosts pedal pressure); vehicle stability assist (honda's electronic stability control system that attempts to minimize skidding in turns); and tire pressure monitors (which warn of dangerous drops in tire pressure). walkaroundboxy is out. Well, maybe not svelte. We're talking suvs, here. And honda, ever the quick learner, has responded with the fully re-styled, 2007 cr-v.  head on, the 2007's low, jutting jaw-like front bumper and skid-plate look pull its visual mass downwards, reducing its perceived height. Large, sharply angled headlight housings crowd the upper grille and bleed down into the lower air intake. Stout fender flares stretch out to wrap tightly around the tires, giving the new cr-v a sturdy, planted stance.  the side aspect shows most clearly the '07's departure from the boxy, mini-suv look. Starting from the gently rounded hood, the relatively fast windshield flows into a roofline that drops ever so slightly as it passes over the sharply tapered glasshouse, ending at the tailgate's top edge, which itself is pulled forward to a point almost directly above the rear wheel well. A strong character line runs from the top of the front wheel well back beneath the full-round door handles to bifurcate the side marker lens of the rear taillight. To us, it looks a little like the mercedes-benz r-class in the overall outline.  the rear view presents more of the classic suv look, with a trapezoidal backlight bookended by the trademark cr-v taillights and atop a fairly tall and relatively broad, high-relief tailgate panel. The oversize license plate recess will accommodate almost any country's registration telltale. A repeat of the front end's skid plate look masks the rear bumper mass and draws the eye to tires pushed out to the edges of the cr-v's side panels. interiorthe interior of the new honda cr-v focuses on function with a bit of style tossed in to make things interesting. Everything is in its place for the most part, and everything feels the way it should. Quality of materials and fit and finish overall live up to honda's standards; some trim pieces, however, showed traces of flash, those little flat bits of plastic left over from the seams of the original molds.  the grippy, waffle-textured, fabric upholstery feels durable. The ex-l's optional leather upholstery is, obviously, richer looking and likely more durable, but no more comfortable. The front seats have slightly taller and marginally wider backs than their '06 counterparts, but are still short on thigh support. To the limited extent the new cr-v lends itself to sporty driving, the seatbacks' side bolsters do an adequate job of keeping occupants' upper bodies in place. Not so the seat bottom's bolsters, those being clearly shaped more for ease of entry and exit than for restraining occupants' posteriors. There is, however, a most welcome dead pedal against which drivers may brace a left leg as necessary and appropriate. Nice touch, as is the replacement of the right-hinged tailgate, which is on the wrong side for curbside unloading at u. Airports, with a top-hinged liftgate.  dashboard and instrument cluster are classic honda, as in, friendly to eye and hand, with the only mildly discordant note the placement of the shift lever, sprouting from a pod suspended from the center of the dash. While neither as ergonomic as a floor-mounted lever nor as natural, in an archaic sort of way, as one mounted on the steering column, it is consistent with the emphasis on flexibility in the front seat area. In the lx and ex, the space between the front seats that might otherwise host a console and floor-mounted shift lever is dedicated to a unique, multi-use tray that when not needed folds down against the side of the passenger seat, opening a walk-through access to the rear seat. To house the six-cd changer that the optional nav system displaces from the dash, the ex-l gets a more traditional, fixed center console, with cup holders and additional storage.  most drivers will find their six-way adjustable seat and two-way adjustable steering give them the best of all worlds: a comfortable posture without compromising outward visibility. A low cowl keeps the edges of the hood in view. Rearward vision, however, sets no new standard and actually suffers some from the awkwardly shaped c-pillars. The rearview video cam that comes with the optional nav system help. AM/FM✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ CD Changer✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Navigation System

2007 jeep grand cherokee review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Optional diesel engine expands lineup. introductionjeep promotes the grand cherokee as a full-size suv, but that's only partly true. In its physical dimensions and towing capacity, grand cherokee is a mid-size, like the ford explorer or chevrolet trailblazer. At the base level, it's priced like a mid-size. It isn't even jeep's biggest suv, as that honor now belongs to the commander. Yet it is instantly recognizable as a jeep. Inside, the atmosphere is light, comfortable, and enveloping, with lots of seat adjustment, excellent outward vision around relatively slim windshield post. All switches and controls are clearly are labeled and easy to find and use. In back is nearly 70 cubic feet of cargo space.  anyone familiar with grand cherokees of just a few years ago will find that the chassis is now far more sophisticated, giving the current model much better handling than that of pre-2005 models. Its turning radius is tighter, too, good for crowded parking lots.  a wide range of modern engines is available. The 5. 7-liter hemi v8 is particularly good for towing or driving at higher elevations. The high-performance srt8 model has a 420-horsepower 6. 1-liter hemi and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds. The smaller, 4. 7-liter overhead-cam v8 works quite well, too, and is offered in most states with e85 flex-fuel capability, meaning it can run on gasoline or up to 85 percent ethanol. Even the standard overhead-cam v6 is quite competent. For 2006, jeep expanded the grand cherokee model range with the luxurious overland and the high-performance srt8. For 2007, jeep has added a number of refinements. Most significantly, side-curtain air bags with roll detection are now standard on all models, and all models now offer the parkview reversing camera and active turn signals. Standard tires are wider. Remote start is standard on limited and overland, and optional on laredo and srt8. Cloth upholstery is standard. Air conditioning comes standard, along with one-touch power windows, power locks with remote keyless entry, eight-way power driver's seat, am/fm/cd audio with auxiliary input jack, driver information center, 60/40 split folding rear seat, an engine immobilizer, water-resistant storage compartment, tire pressure monitor and 17-inch wheels. Standard tires are now p245/65r17 goodyear fortera, replacing last year's 235mm goodyear wranglers. Quadra-trac ii, which includes a low range, is optional 595) with the v6 and standard with the v8. Quadra-drive ii full-time active 4wd is now optional 795) with either engine. Numerous options are available.  the limited 34,730) comes with the 4. 7-liter v8 and leather upholstery. Also standard: automatic climate control; power sunroof; boston acoustics six-speaker, 276-watt am/fm stereo with six-cd changer and mp3 capability; power adjustable pedals; power passenger seat; memory function for the seats, pedals, and mirrors; smartbeam automatic headlamps; rain-sensing automatic wipers; electrochromic rearview mirror; homelink; a more sophisticated tire pressure monitor that displays the status of individual tires; adjustable roof-rack crossrails; and machined-face 17-inch aluminum wheels. Limited 4wd 37,320) gets all that plus quadra-trac ii, with quadra-drive ii as an option. The hemi is optional 845) on both 2wd and 4wd limiteds.  the overland 39,255) comes with the 5. 7-liter hemi, and adds a wood-and-leather steering wheel, real wood accents on the doors and console, two-tone leather and ultra-suede seats embroidered with the overland logo, leather-covered console and armrest, side airbags, dvd-based navigation, sirius satellite radio, parksense rear park assist with parkview reversing camera, a trailer-tow group, and chromed aluminum wheels. Platinum accents highlight the exterior, and the front sill guards are now brushed stainless. Overland 4wd 42,690) adds quadra-drive ii.  the 3. 0-liter diesel engine is optional on laredo, limited, and overland, with 2wd or 4wd, but was not available for earlier production models.  the srt8 40,105) comes with a 6. 1-liter hemi rated 420 horsepower, a lowered suspension and its own electronic all-wheel-drive system. Distinctive bumper fascias and 20-inch wheels make srt8 instantly identifiable. Inside are sport seats, special trim, and a level of standard features roughly analogous to the limited's. Options can bring an srt8 nearly up to the overland level of comfort and convenience.  options include a rear-seat dvd entertainment system 1,200); a sunroof package 800); various trailer tow groups 180-255); uconnect hands-free communication system 275); parksense rear park assist 255); and the more sophisticated parkview, which incorporates a camera, packaged with gps navigation 1,890 with 4wd, $2190 with 2wd). It's actually smaller than a ford explorer.  in appearance, the grand cherokee is modern and square-edged, with a fashionably high waistline and small side windows. The shape of the body is designed to protect the sides of the vehicle from potential road debris. Revised taillights distinguish the '07; otherwise grand cherokee's outside appearance hasn't changed significantly since '05.  while conventional suvs, such as the dodge durango, are built on a separate frame like a truck, the grand cherokee uses an unusual construction scheme jeep calls uniframe, a close marriage of a welded steel unit-body and underlying front and rear modules. This is an extremely sturdy and rigid concept developed back in jeep's days with unit-body pioneer american motors. The grand cherokee has earned a five-star safety rating in both front and side impact tests from the federal government.  new for 2007: the base-level laredo model has been dressed up a bit. Door handles are now body-color (instead of black), and the black bodyside moldings have been redesigned.  limited models still present a flashier appearance, with a chromed grille, bright inserts in the bumpers, and accent-color bodyside molding.  the overland is distinguished by mesh-texture grille inserts between its traditional vertical grille bars, which are platinum in finish; platinum accents also appear on the bumpers, side molding, roof-rack side rails, liftgate light bar, and side-view mirrors. Wheels are chromed, and the front sill guards are now brushed stainless.  jeep has reached deep into its heritage to revive the overland name. First built in 1903, the overland automobile was the earliest ancestor of the willys. Willys played an instrumental role in the development and production of the world war ii-era jeep, but was also the first automaker to seriously envision a civilian market for a military-style utility vehicle. The willys jeep debuted in 1946 and had its name shortened to just-plain jeep in the early 1960s. Although the jeep brand has passed through several owners since then, its lineage remains unbroken.  the srt8 has a monochrome look all its own, relieved by bright trim at the belt level and bodyside and accented by enormous five-spoke, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. Functional air ducts in its more bluff front bumper fascia improve brake cooling. Srt8 is available only in bright silver, brilliant black or inferno red. In all grand cherokees, the two-tone, dark-over-light theme set by the instrument panel flows into the door trim.  the handbrake lever has a spindly, low-quality feel to it, however.  new for 2007: the finish on the upper panel has been improved. The laredo has been upgraded here for '07, with the same chrome gauge rings that used to be exclusive to the limited, plus chrome-accented hvac controls and a matching-color bezel (replacing black).

2006 toyota highlander hybrid review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New hybrid joins best-selling lineup. introductiona new gas-electric hybrid model has joined the toyota highlander line for 2006. The highlander hybrid uses toyota's hybrid synergy drive.  the toyota highlander is the best-selling vehicle of its type, a midsize sport-utility based on a car. Highlander's popularity is partly because it's a toyota, which promises top-notch quality, durability and reliability. But it's also a result of its practicality and easy manner.  the highlander is, after all, the easiest of motoring companions. Getting in and out couldn't be easier. Accommodating various combinations of people and cargo is easy. Seating for five comes standard, but the highlander can carry up to seven passengers with the optional third-row seat. Folding the seats down reveals 80 cubic feet of cargo space.  underway, it's smooth and quiet. Its independent suspension is set up for comfort and ride quality as a priority. The hybrid combines a 3. 3-liter v6 with an electric motor, or two motors in the case of all-wheel-drive models. The electric motor improves acceleration, helping the hybrid to easily keep up with big, powerful suvs. This urge to speed comes at a major cost to fuel economy. The real story here is emissions. The highlander hybrid will be classified by the government as a super ultra low emissions vehicle, or sulev. The 2005 models added more standard equipment. The hybrid is new for 2006; the other models carry forward largely unchanged. lineupthe toyota highlander is available in base or limited trim, each with front-wheel drive or full-time all-wheel drive. A choice of three powertrains is now available: a 2. 4-liter inline-4, rated at 160 horsepower, comes standard. A 3. 3-liter v6 that produces 230 horsepower is optional on the base highlander and standard on the limited. The new hybrid combines a 3. 3-liter v6 with a high-torque electric drive motor-generator, a system called hybrid synergy drive. Same deal with the all-wheel-drive v6 highlander 27,840) except it comes standard with the third row.  limited 2wd 30,460) and limited 4wd 31,860) models come standard with the v6 and third row. The hybrid is also available as a limited 2wd 37,890) or limited 4wd 39,290).  leather-trimmed seating (ivory or ash gray) is available for the limited 670) or base model 2,255). Other options: tilt-and-slide glass sunroof 900), in-dash six-cd changer 595). The optional rear-seat dvd system 1,770) includes two wireless headphones, rca input jacks for video games, and a household-style 115-volt ac power outlet. Gps navigation 2,200) is offered on limited only. A towing package 160) includes trailer wiring plus an upgraded radiator, transmission oil cooler, and 130-amp alternator.  safety features start with the three-point seatbelts and headrests for all seating positions. The front seatbelts include pretensioners and force limiters. The driver and passenger front airbags inflate according to collision severity, and the front-seat passenger sensor is designed to determine if there is a person in the seat as well as the person's weight category to determine whether the airbag should inflate and the correct inflation power.  optional side-impact airbags mounted in the front seats are designed to provide torso protection, while side curtain airbags are designed to protect the heads of first- and second-row passengers in a side impact or rollover 680). Be sure to order them. Head injuries are the primary cause of death in side impacts. The second-row seat is equipped with the latch system with top tether anchors for all three seating positions and lower anchors for outboard seating positions. A new low-tire-pressure warning system is standard.  the star safety system, standard on all models, includes vehicle stability control (vsc) and traction control, anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) and brake assist. walkaroundthe toyota highlander looks smart and trim, falling somewhere between the edgy high style of the rav4 and the muscular purposefulness of the 4runner. There's a slight family resemblance between the highlander and the lexus rx 330, although the highlander looks more dressed down, rather like wearing faded jeans and a favorite windbreaker instead of dry-clean-only lunch-with-the-ladies attire.  highlander is slightly larger inside, as measured by total epa interior volume, than the rx 330, although the lexus has slightly more cargo volume.  toyota design philosophy tends toward conservative appearance changes, and the highlander lacks a cutting-edge design such as that of the nissan murano. Highlander's front and rear overhangs are relatively large, tending more toward a station wagon look. It's an attractive vehicle, though, particularly in profile. Highlander's front bumper, light clusters and grille were revised for 2004.  while the toyota 4runner is basically a truck, the highlander is essentially a car. Like a car, the highlander uses unibody construction rather than having a separate frame. Two-wheel-drive versions are front-wheel drive, not rear-wheel drive. The 4runner is the opposite of each of those strategies. For commuting and transporting the family, the highlander is the better, more comfortable choice. Properly equipped, highlander can tow up to 3,500 pounds, not much by truck standards, but sufficient for personal watercraft, small boats and other toys. interiorfew vehicles are easier to get in and out of than a toyota highlander. Neither climbing up nor stepping down is required. Highlander is even friendly to wearers of tight skirts. This makes the highlander one of the most convenient vehicles available for running daily errands. There are walk-in steps and a second-row sliding seat to help access the third row of seats.  highlander comes with reclining bucket seats in front. These seats are flat and lean, but supportive and comfortable and adjust to suit various-size drivers. Their higher ride height provides a commanding view of the road. The sloping hood of the highlander makes the forward view even more encompassing. The front seats are designed to reduce the possibility of whiplash.  the second row seats up to three passengers, but is better for two. The center of the second-row seat folds down into an arm rest with cup holders, and the seats recline for additional comfort. It's split 60/40 and folds down with a cleverly articulated seat bottom. The second row folds fairly flat but not perfectly flat. The second-row seat slides forward to make access to the third row easier, and to provide more legroom for third-row passengers.  toyota intends for the third row to be used only occasionally. It's uncomfortable for average-sized adults. The third row is best for kids and short trips. Third-row seats are seldom comfortable, especially in this class. The nissan murano has no third row. Also, the side-curtain airbags do not protect third-row passengers; they do in a toyota sienna minivan. For transporting people, a minivan is better. Third-row seats are packaged with rear privacy glass, a rear heat.
