Full-size buick luxury with improved efficiency. introductionthe buick lucerne is a highly competent sedan with smooth, clean lines and driving manners to match. Underway, it's smooth and quiet, but with precise steering and a chassis that handles winding roads with aplomb. Inside, it's elegant, comfortable and easy. the buick lucerne comes in several models. The lucerne cx is tuned as a traditional buick, with the premium ride suspension. The lucerne cxl comes with a firmer ride and handling suspension, and is positioned to compete with the toyota avalon and lexus es 350. We found it a very enjoyable car to drive, with agile handling and plenty of performance. a full-size, front-wheel-drive sedan, the lucerne benefits from a larger, more powerful, and more efficient v6 for 2009. Horsepower is up 15 percent from 197 to 227; while fuel economy has improved from 16/25 mpg city/highway to 17/26. The lucerne comes loaded with more standard features for 2009, including a bluetooth hands-free phone interface. Xm radio with navtraffic is available. the v8-powered lucerne super, first introduced as a 2008 model, delivers even more performance for 2009, plus magnetic ride control, an adaptive sports suspension developed for the corvette. advanced safety systems are available on all models. Lane departure warning uses a camera to warn drivers of inadvertent lane changes. The driver confidence and comfort and convenience packages are standard. Outside, the super sports its own unique grille, front and rear fascias, extended rocker panels, and integrated dual exhaust tips. Some paint colors are extra-cost options. safety features on all models include six airbags: a dual-stage driver's front airbag and a dual-depth front passenger bag, front-seat side-impact airbags, and full-coverage side-impact curtain airbags. (the dual-depth passenger airbag has two sections; a smaller section deploys in a less severe crash or if the passenger is small or seated nearer the dashboard. In a bad crash or if the passenger is not wearing their seat belt the full bag deploys for maximum effect.) the front seatbelts come with pretensioners, so be sure to wear them. Traction control, anti-lock brakes, and a tire pressure monitor are standard on all models. The lucerne has a handsome appearance with a good stance thanks to its long wheelbase and wide track. The classic, buick waterfall grille blends in well with the large integrated headlamps. The side profile, with its steeply raked windshield, is reminiscent of several recently introduced european sedans such as the vw passat and audi a6. The rear of the lucerne features a high trunk line with nicely integrated tail lamps. chrome trim is kept to a minimum. Beside the grille, the only stylistic link to buicks of old is the row of small portholes on each of the front fenders. Flashback to the fifties, when more powerful buicks had more holes. These grille bars turn sharply inward at the top, giving more definition to the waterfall effect. Below the new grille, the look is more familiar, with twin lower air intakes accentuated by chrome slashes that seem to point to the outboard foglights. the smaller main grille of the cx and cxl is finer in texture, and is now chrome on the cxl as well as the cx. The twin lower air intakes on these models hide behind horizontal grillwork cut into the lower bumper. the buick lucerne is built on the same platform as the cadillac dts and benefits from modern build techniques for a quiet luxury car. These include hydroformed frame rails for a stiffer body, and use of laminated steel with plenty of sound deadening material placed in strategic locations. Buick engineers shaped the outside of the door mirrors to lessen wind noise. We found the bucket seats provide a good level of comfort and come with an armrest in the center console. rear-seat passengers are well taken care of with good headroom and excellent leg room. Lucerne's long wheelbase allows for a wider-opening rear door with almost no intrusion from the wheel well, making it easy to get in and out of the car. Onstar with turn-by-turn service comes standard and allows customers to talk to a live advisor who downloads complete step-by-step directions to the vehicle through the onstar system. Audio directions are then automatically played through the vehicle's stereo as they are needed, triggered by the onstar system's gps capabilities. Drivers can be directed to their destinations without having to take their hands from the wheel or eyes from the road. New onstar enav allows subscribers to find and save destinations on mapquest. Com, and have those destinations sent to their vehicle's onstar system. a touch-screen navigation system is also available, giving the lucerne driver the best of both worlds. New onstar destination download enables onstar subscribers with screen-based navigation to quickly input their destination via the press of a button; while new xm navtraffic (available in 80 major north american markets) delivers real-time information about accidents, traffic backups, and road construction directly to the navigation screen. With or without navigation, all 2009 lucernes come with an enhanced xm dis.

2009 subaru forester review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, bigger, roomier. introductionthe redesigned 2009 subaru forester is the third generation of the popular crossover utility vehicle. The forester competes with the honda crv and toyota rav4 among others. Visibility is exceptional. overall, the 2009 forester is 3 inches longer, 2 inches wider, and about 100 pounds heavier than last year's model. Despite the increase in size and power, the base forester gets improved fuel mileage, achieving 20/26 mpg on the epa's new city/highway cycle, the same as the crv and rav4. The turbocharged forester xt gets 19/24 mpg and requires premium fuel. The turbocharged xt is more desirable because of its torque, although it's more expensive to operate because of its premium fuel requirement. lineupfor 2009, there are a number of changes to the styling that make the subaru forester way sleeker, but the identity has not been changed. the functional hood scoop on the xt has a smaller bulge than before, but its opening is no less wide, thanks to a redesign of the turbocharger intercooler opening, and the steeper slope of the hood. The headlights with amber turn signals are shaped like gold-tipped eagles' wings, and the uplifting grille that fills the space between them has lost its boxiness, with corners upturned. Under the grille is a lower lip fascia that looks like there's a pack of snuff stuffed in it. The corners are tucked in so tightly that the bumper has almost been lost. The foglights are mounted in gray plastic fascia that runs 360 degrees around the car, being rocker panels on the sides. Even if there are no foglights the mounting spots are there in the gray plastic. the lines on the sides of the car, especially the flares over the wheelwells that might be bigger for the sake of trendy styling but aren't, made the '08 forester look dumpy. A black c-pillar, camouflaged to hide in the tinted glass, helps with the shape thing on the 2009 model. The five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels aren't bad looking. from the rear, the xt has a twin chrome-tipped exhaust, pretty cool for a tidy crossover. And the spoiler over the rear window makes its statement. the forester and rav4 look alike when parked side by side. walkaroundthe new dashboard for 2009, taken from the impreza, has a nice gullwing sweep from the center stack off to the passenger side, in brushed-aluminum-looking plastic material, interrupted only by a single climate vent. Underneath is a big glovebox. The center stack has a bit more of that nice aluminum-look trim, which others have called cheap but it looks fine to us, and just forward of the shift lever is a good-sized cubby. Climate and audio controls on the center stack are simple to operate. the background light to the gauges is a funky blue, just for effect, some will like it some won't. There's a slit over the center stack with digital display for time and temperature. The really nice perforated leather is a whole new ball game, erasing the almost-frumpy feeling sent by the cloth. the front doors have a nice elbow rest and large pockets each with a recess for 24-ounce bottles. The aluminum pedals on the xt are cool. the air conditioning cools well, fast and quiet. following subaru's design goals, the new 2009 forester most needed rear-seat legroom and cargo space. The rear 60/40 seats fold flat to make a nice cargo area, widened by 5. 2 inches between the wheelhouses thanks to a new double-wishbone rear suspension. The relatively gigantic cargo area will definitely appeal to active outdoors enthusiasts with lost of stuff. The specs are 33. 5 cubic feet with the rear seat up, 68. 3 with the seats flat. driver visibility is excellent in all directions, thanks to careful pillar design. Subaru staged a demonstration for us, placing a cutout of a kid behind the forester and a toyota rav4. The forester driver could see the kid in his rearview mirror at seven feet, but in the rav4 the kid was lost in a low blind spot for 23 feet. the rear seat reclines in all but the 2. 5x base model, and includes a retractable center tray with fixed drink holders. Legroom is excellent, increased by 4. 3 inches, on a wheelbase increase of 3. 6 inches; and there's a couple inches more shoulder room, as well.
