2005 audi tt review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth, civilized sports car. introductionaudi's sports car heritage is as rich as any manufacturer's, dating back 100 years to competition at the isle of man. It's this heritage that drives the 2005 audi tt. Of particular note is the new six-speed gearbox that's mated to the 3. 2-liter six-cylinder engine on audi's most powerful tt. Car and driver magazine's engineering editor calls it a manual, while audi's press material calls it an automatic; we'll call it a hybrid because it doesn't make much difference to the driver what it is, only how it works. It works like both; and, unlike some automatic transmissions with a manual mode, it's the best of both.  the tt, audi's first true sports car, comes as either a coupe or roadster. The styling is retro yet pure, the interior is very stylish, the handling is exceptionally stable and the brakes are among the best. lineupthere are six models of the audi tt: a coupe and roadster each with three engines. It's operated either with the short lever on the floor or small paddles on the steering wheel. Or it can be left in drive and not operated at all.  all audi tt models come with the latest in active and passive safety features: anti-lock brakes (abs), an electronic stability program (esp), electronic brake force distribution (ebd), and an electronic differential lock (edl). The 180-horsepower 1. 8 t comes with traction control (asr) to make up for its lack of all-wheel drive. Roadsters come with fixed roll bars in polished aluminum finish behind the seats. All tt models include seat-mounted head and chest side airbags and next-generation dual front airbags; three-point safety belts with pretensioners and load limiters; and the latch system for child safety seats.  options include papaya orange paint 1000); the baseball optic leather interior treatment 1000); a premium package with homelink and heated seats 700); a bose audio system package 1200); the power folding top option 800); 18-inch wheels and tires 775); a navigation system 1350); xm satellite radio and, back by popular demand, the alcan leather steering wheel. walkaroundthe tt coupe made its first appearance as a concept at the 1995 frankfurt show, and was still dazzling when it made its u. Debut for model year 2000. With apologies to the dodge viper, the tt might be considered the car that opened the floodgates of creativity by breaking down the barriers of manufacturers' and especially designers' fears.  the bathtub shape was radically retro when the tt was introduced and it still doesn't seem dated; it's still striking. It was daring for its purity and simplicity of form five years ago and still is, although designers of all makes have gotten more creative lately (think bmw z4). In short, the tt looks terrific, especially the coupe.  the engine is mounted in front but the tt's overall presence makes it look like the engine should be right behind the driver, like the porsche boxster's. Instead there are small seats back there, making the tt a two-plus-two, unlike the boxster. It looks less like an engine than a couple of black plastic suitcases crammed into a karmann-ghia trunk.  the tt 3. 2 has some new styling licks including the lamps, grilles and rear deck badging. But mostly there are aerodynamic tweaks, too subtle to be individually recognized by the casual observer, although they give the tt a vaguely sleeker overall appearance. There's a new front apron with side gills and enlarged inlets for engine cooling, and a bigger rear spoiler and honeycomb diffuser to increase stability at high speeds. The exhaust pipes are unique to the 3. 2 as well.  the styling doesn't quite work as well without the top, because much of the visual appeal comes with the endearing total roundness. The roadster looks like it forgot something when it left the house: its top. When it's up, the soft top looks pretty cool though. interiorone of the things that makes the tt especially pleasurable to drive is the excellent leg and foot room. There's a huge dead pedal, and a blissful pad for the side of the driver's right leg where it presses against the center stack and transmission tunnel, a feature that too many hard-cornering cars overlook. There's enough adjustment to allow for even very tall drivers, although with the bucket seats slid all the way back, don't count on two passengers in the jump seats. Packages will probably love it in those seats, although it's still easier to pop them in the trunk. The panel and dashboard area in the audi tt are acknowledged as models of modern industrial design: easy to read, easy to use and understand. Acceleration performance increases dramatically with the more powerful engines.  the tt with the 180-horsepower engine, and the tiptronic automatic, seems designed for drivers who want a sharp sports car with sporty handling and performance, but aren't interested in exploring the limits of a sports car on a regular basis. Over 4000 rpm it's very smooth, and doesn't feel like the engine is revving. Audi says the tt 1. 8 t coupe can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7. 9 seconds, which is neither lethargic nor particularly quick. The ride quality in the standard model is quite comfortable, not at all stiff, no harshness anywhere.  the 225-hp version delivers 207 pound-feet of torque, allowing the tt to accelerate from 0 to 60 in 6. 7 seconds. The engine redlines at 6500 and likes to hang out at 5000. The six-speed manual transmission is the right match for this engine; the automatic doesn't work as well with the 1. 8 t. The 225-hp engine gets its extra power from using a different turbo (a k04 instead of a k03), two intercoolers instead of one, and some reworked internals.  the new tt 3. 2 features an innovative narrow-angle v6, provided by volkswagen. It makes 250 horsepower at 6300 rpm, with 235 pound-feet of peak torque available between 2800 and 3200 rpm; the power comes on earlier, smoother and stronger than it does in the turbo engines. Audi says the 3. 2 version will go from. Heated Seats✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Bucket Seats✔ Leather Seats✔ Navigation System

2005 bmw x3 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Refined interior materials and more features. introductionthe bmw x3 enters its second year of production flush with success. In its first year, the x3 sold almost as well as the larger x5, doubling bmw's impact on the suv market. The 2005 bmw x3 gets a number of refinements and upgrades despite minimal increases in base prices.  the x3's drivetrain is equipped with bmw's xdrive all-wheel-drive system, dynamic stability control and hill descent control, all designed to give it tenacious grip and secure control in less than favorable conditions. Bmw's near-luxury sport-utility is available with two versions of the company's proven six-cylinder engine.  the x3 is quick and fast, considering its heft. The xdrive puts it at the head of the class when weather or road goes north. It's roomy, both for passengers and cargo. And just as important, it's replete with safety features, both active and passive. lineuptwo models are available. The x3 2. 5i is powered by a 184-horsepower 2. 5-liter inline six-cylinder engine. The x3 3. 0i sports a 225-horsepower 3. 0-liter inline-6. Both are equipped with bmw's xdrive all-wheel-drive system.  both come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. The 2005 x3 2. 5i also comes standard with a dash-top storage compartment and mp3 capability for the audio system.  options can add considerably to the bottom line. The 2. 5i premium package 3,700) adds automatic climate control, power front seats with memory, a dual-panel, two-way power moonroof, cruise control, foglights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic headlight control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, maple sycamore dark interior trim, storage nets in the front passenger's footwell and the front seats' backrests, upgraded interior lighting, a storage net, attachment rails and a reversible, slip-proof mat for the cargo area, and bmw assist. All these features are standard on the 3. 0i.  the cold weather package 750) adds heated front seats, headlight washers and ski bag to either model.  the sport package 1,500) for both models includes a sports suspension, 18-inch wheels, 235/50hr18 all-season radials, shadowline (black) exterior trim, sport front seats and a sport steering wheel. Adaptive brake lights signal the urgency with which the driver has pressed the brake pedal. Optional: rear door-mounted side-impact airbags 385). The x3 comes with good seat belts. Only when parked side by side are the differences noticeable, and then only to the extent of inches or less.  there are a few new exterior touches on the 2005 models, but none alter the looks much. For 2005, the grille's vertical slats are chrome on the 3. 0i, and there's a new chrome strip along the base of the side windows. From the front, the stance looks much the same as the x5, with fenders tautly blistered over wide and widely spaced tires, giving the x3 a bmw-like, road-grabbing face. This is no real surprise, as the x3 is but 0. 7 inches narrower than the x5; its track, too, is within an inch and a half of the x5's.  much the same goes for the side view, though the cut line from the front wheel wells to the front doors has been eliminated for a cleaner look. A mild character crease bridges the space between the fender blisters and a relatively low beltline adds openness to the side windows. The trademark dogleg in the rear quarter window has been stretched a bit, however. Physical measurements support the visual similarities. The x3's 110-inch wheelbase is less than 1 inch shy of the x5's, and its overall length comes up short of the x5's 183. 7 inches by only 4 inches. The x5 is also but 1. 5 inches taller.  from the rear, the only marked difference is the single, double-tipped exhaust exiting on the left side where the x5 sports dual exhausts exiting at the corners. interiorpeople familiar with bmw interiors will immediately feel at home in the x3. Controls are where they should be and feel the way they should, with the proper directional movement, resistance and detents. Instruments are easy to read at a glance and communicate the proper and necessary information.  the display for the optional navigation system is one of the most thoughtfully positioned of the lot, rotating up out of the top center of the dash, gray instead of black on 2005 models, so it's visible to driver and navigator but nestled unobtrusively halfway down in the recess where it stows when not in use.  passengers will climb in over new aluminum doorsill trim with the bmw logo and will find new interior trim and refined materials for 2005, including new matte titanium and pearl-gloss chrome interior trim for the 2. 5i and maple sycamore dark wood trim in the 3. 0i.  the front seats are supportive and comfortably bolstered. The standard seats are more comfortable than the sport seats and quite adequately restrain the occupants' posteriors when the way turns winding. Seatbelts feel right, properly tensioned. Ranges of seat adjustment are extensive, to the point a six-footer can enjoy major amounts of headroom and actually put the steering wheel and forward footwell well out of reach; at these extremes, however, rear-seat legroom is seriously diminished.  dimensionally, the x3's interior compares favorably with its most likely direct competition, the lexus rx 330 and infiniti fx35, giving up an inch or so here and gaining the same there. In many measures it bests the more expensive x5. There's almost an inch more legroom in front and about half an inch more in the rear, for instance. Front-seat headroom is about a half inch less than in the x5, but rear-seat headroom is nearly an inch greater. On the downside, the x3's rear seat is quite firm and virtually flat, like a church pew, where the x5 and the others offer more form fit and comfort. The x3's rear center head restraint is fixed, offering no vertical adjustment.  storage areas are numerous and flexible, many fitted with netting that stretches to accommodate odd shapes and medium-sized water bottles. Rear-door map pockets forfeit several square inches to the europeans' unabated addiction to ash trays. Cargo area, though, is impressive, exceeding the x5's by 2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, and slotting in between the rx 330's 84. 7 cubic feet and the fx35's 64. 5.  so much for the tape measure. Where the x3 disappoints is in the intangible and tactile, how the interior looks and feels. And yes, the seats do their job, and admirably. The stereo, too, is a quality unit surrounding occupants with balanced sounds.  textures and materials have been improved, but there's still no mistaking the x3 for one of bmw's luxury sedans. There are two front cup holders, now standard, but the one mounted on the center console is sized more for soda pop cans than coffee cups or water bottles and looks like an afterthought, something cobbled together and glued in place forward of the armrest/storage bin. The passenger cup holder pops out of the end of the dash by the door, where it gets bumped by knees when the passenger is climbing in or out of the car. Door closings are followed by a hint of a hollow echo, instead of the solid 'thunk' so common on bmws. driving impressiondriving the bmw x3 is a memorable experience, for the most part a quite pleasant one. It's not a bmw 3 series by any stretch. But neither is it anything like a run-of-the-mill suv, quite different even from either the lexus rx 330 or the infiniti fx35, both of which tend toward the luxury end of the scale, while the x3 leans more to turning two-lanes and the occasional twisty dirt track into a fun drive.  as readily as the x3 swallows up mile after mile of high-speed highway, and as confident as it feels in the wet, it really shines on dusty, gravel-strewn back roads and slushy boulevards. Granted, its xdrive must obey the laws of physics, but within those limits and working with the x3's multi-faceted dynamic stability control system, it accomplishes feats beyond the talents and reflexes of all but the most accomplished off-road drivers. Unerringly, just about the time the. Climate Control✔ Cruise Control✔ Sport Package✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Navigation System

2008 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Broad line of superb compacts. introductionthe honda civic holds its position at the top of this highly competitive class, with innovative styling, segment-leading refinement, and a broad model line that ranges from eco-friendly to sport-compact racy.  the civic is comfortable and affords the driver outstanding outward visibility. It comes standard with side-impact airbags and other safety features that are optional on competitive models.  the 2008 lineup includes a new leather-upholstered ex-l model and a hot mugen si sedan, with high-performance suspension, forged aluminum wheels, aerodynamic body styling, and a sport-tuned exhaust.  civic was last restyled and reengineered for 2006, and the sporty si coupe was reintroduced at the same time. The hybrid features dramatically reduced emissions, and it delivers an epa-rated 40/45 mpg city/highway, second only to the toyota prius.  a natural gas-powered civic, the gx sedan, is available to residents of california and new york, but can also be found in fleets there and elsewhere. lineupthe 2008 honda civic is available in coupe and sedan versions. A five-speed automatic 800) is optional.  the honda civic dx coupe 14,810) and sedan 15,010) are the base models. Standard equipment is confined to power windows, tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, height-adjustable driver's seat and fold-down rear seatback. The coupe gets a rear decklid spoiler. Brakes are disc in front, drum in rear. P195/65r15 tires wrap around steel wheels with full-cover hubcaps.  the civic lx coupe 16,760) and sedan 16,960) add air conditioning; cruise control with steering-wheel-mounted controls; power door locks with keyless entry; center console with sliding armrest; overhead map lights; and express up/down for the driver's power window; p205/55r16 tires on steel wheels with covers. The coupe has six speakers and a rear-seat walk-in feature that remembers the front passenger seat's setting.  the civic ex coupe and sedan 18,710) add power moonroof; variable-speed windshield wipers; a second 12-volt power outlet; a 60/40 split folding rear seatback; and outside temperature indicator. The keyless remote adds a trunk release button. They come only with a six-speed manual transmission. Other go-fast goodies include a limited-slip differential, sport suspension, electronic vehicle stability assist system with traction control, and p215/45r17 tires on 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside are synthetic suede sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob; 350-watt stereo. Packages include high-performance p215/45zr17 tires for the coupe 21,310) and sedan 21,510); xm and navigation 22,860 and $23,060); or with all of the above 23,060 and $23,260).  new for 2008 is the mugen si sedan 29,500), which includes sports suspension, forged aluminum 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels, a full aerodynamic body kit with an adjustable rear wing and diffuser, and a sport-tuned exhaust.  the civic hybrid sedan 22,600) features a continuously variable automatic transmission (cvt), automatic climate control, a roof-mounted radio antenna, a rear decklid spoiler, and hybrid-pertinent digital data displays. The hybrid is also available with the navigation system and xm satellite radio 24,350).  the civic gx 24,590) is essentially an lx sedan with a 1. 8-liter engine powered by natural gas. It comes only with a five-speed manual transmission. It comes with an auxiliary audio input jack for 2008. walkaroundthe honda civic sedans and coupes don't share any body panels. Details and markings distinguish each trim level.    a bright horizontal bar, with a prominent honda h in the middle, dominates the sedan's grille. Slender headlamp assemblies angle upwards as they curve around the fenders. A single, broad air intake fills the lower portion of the fascia.  the coupe grille is more delicate, with the honda logo suspended in a two-tier frame. The central lower air intake opens between two geometric side recesses that feed cooling air to the front disc brakes and house the optional fog lamps. Even more so than with the sedan, the coupe front end pushes the leading corners down and outward, emphasizing the wide track (the distance side to side between the tires).  save for a lower body character line, drawn slightly higher on the coupe than on the sedan, the sides of the civic are more slab than sensuous. Understated fender blisters, more pronounced on the coupe, break up the otherwise featureless expanse. What excitement there is in the side view is in the sleekness of what honda calls a monoform design. A central expression of this is the windshield, the leading edge of which reaches into the hood all the way to the middle of the front wheel wells, pushing the cab-forward design concept to a new extreme. On the coupe, the windshield is raked at a radical 21. 9 degrees; the sedan's at a barely more upright 23. 9 degrees.  the sail panel (the body panel aft of the rear side window) is unique to each model. The coupe's forms an acute angle with the horizontal deck surface, emphasizing the two-door body style; while the sedan's curves down over the rear door's trailing edge, pulling the eye through the higher roofline. The coupe's be-spoilered, rounded rear profile suggests swiftness. The sedan's somewhat abbreviated trunk lid and high, chunky tail end add perceived mass to a tightly proportioned, smallish sedan.  likewise, the rear view of each body style differs markedly. The coupe's sloping trunk lid settles into a deep cut in the rear bumper, with the license plate sheltered in an equally deep recess. The sedan's trunk lid drops in an almost vertical, unrelieved sheer from a relatively high crest across the top.  the si sedan and coupe have another grille variation with a body-color bar on top and a black bar underneath; an understated si badge is tucked away to the far right. An i-vtec label appears just forward of the rear wheel well; on the si sedan it's placed low on the rear door. Both feature subtle body cladding.  the mugen si is more extroverted, distinguished immediately by its bi-plane rear spoiler and aggressive aero extensions all around the lower body and a diffuser in the rear bumper. Up front is an all-black version of the si grille that looks weirdly like parted lips wearing goth-black lipstick; a mugen badge beckons from the upper right lip. Businesslike 18-inch, seven-spoke wheels, open in design to show off the brake calipers, complete the mugen ensemble. Honda promises to limit production to a maximum of 1000 for the model year, all painted fiji blue pearl.  the hybrid, in contrast, is understated, with just a small 'hybrid' badge under the right rear taillight. The dx edges more toward spartan inside, while the ex heads toward lush. Fit and finish meet honda standards. Plastic trim elements look high-grade, although the multi-piece dash invites concern about high-mileage squeaks and buzzes.  seats are comfortable, not plush. The fabric upholstery feels durable, and its robust nap assists the modest side and bottom bolsters in restraining occupants during spirited motoring. Seat bottoms provide better than average thigh support. The manual height adjustment on the driver's seat pivots on front hinges, forcing drivers to choose between seat height and legroom. The si and mugen models get sport front seats with synthetic suede upholstery and more aggressive bolsters both bottom and side for improved support.  the view out the front, with the expansive windshield, low cowl and sloping hood, is unparalleled in the class. A commensurately low beltline would enhance side vision, but otherwise there's little about which to complain. Tiny front quarter windows on the sedan, necessary to allow the front door windows to roll all the way down, push the side view mirrors a bit too far rearward for quick and easy glances at neighboring lanes.  controls are for the most part where they should be, but not necessarily as they should be. There's little symmetry in organization or shape of features and interfaces. It's not an unpleasant look, but one that requires some acclimation. Despite the seeming logic of the two-tier instru.
