2009 hyundai sonata review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Economical midsize sedan improved for 2009. introductionhyundai sonata gets a host of revisions for the 2009 model year. It comes with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, cruise control, power heated outside mirrors, power windows, central locking with keyless remote, am/fm/cd/mp3 stereo with six speakers, xm satellite radio, tilt steering wheel, 60/40 folding rear seat, and 215/60r16 tires on 16-inch steel wheels. The popular equipment package 650) adds automatic headlights, chrome window belt moldings, upgraded interior accents, power driver seat with adjustable lumbar support, steering wheel audio controls and a trip computer. The premium package 1,650) for se adds an upgraded am/fm/xm/6cd/mp3 audio system with six speakers, subwoofer and component amplifier; power tilt-and-slide sunroof; and an electrochromic auto-dimming rear view mirror with homelink and a compass.  the limited 23,970) adds leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, automatic climate control with filtration, the top-line audio system, electrochromic auto-dimming rear view mirror with homelink and compass, door sill trim and a sunroof. A chrome grille, chrome-accented exterior door handles, and bodyside moldings identify limited from the outside. Wheels and tires are the same size as those on the se, but use a different tread pattern. The limited v6 25,670) is similarly equipped. A new voice-activated navigation system is available 1250).  safety features on all sonatas include dual-stage front-seat airbags; front-seat side-impact airbags for torso protection; and full-coverage side curtain airbags designed to provide head protection. Antilock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) and electronic stability control (esc) with traction control also come standard, as does a tire-pressure monitor. walkaroundalthough it's just a couple of years old, the hyundai sonata has been given a mild facelift for 2009. The front fascia remains refreshingly clean and spare, with sharply angled headlight housings and a deeper, clean-cut grille topped with a sliver of chrome. Wide and deep openings beneath the front bumper provide a home for tightly focused fog lamps and visually pull the front end closer to the ground, while directing cooling air into the radiator. The striking, concave hood reduces the car's perceived mass without cramping the engine compartment.  the side treatment avoids the all too common wedge look with an almost horizontal beltline riding above softly shouldered fenders and door panels. Mirrored z-seams where the end corners of the bumpers meet the quarter panels add interest, while blacked-out window surrounds play down the tall side glass. The flat-flanged rims on the up-level 17-inch wheels suggest a high-end european import more than an affordable asian nameplate.  the taillight outlines repeat the headlight shapes and bookend a broad, trapezoidal license plate inset; the backup light portion of the lens is smaller but output is the same. Again, there's a hint of other cars' architecture, most notably segment heavyweights like the camry, accord, and malibu. Sporty, california hot rod-idiom dual exhausts mark the v6-equipped versions.  the hyundai sonata continues to refine its signature design cues, the sculptors looking in the right places without offending conservatism. interiorthe 2009 sonata interior is a significant step forward from the previous model, although housed in the same cabin space. It is judged a large car by epa size standards and is the largest among midsize sedans in terms of interior volume.  the cabin feels more integrated, with new flowing lines for 2009. A tapered center stack rolls gently off the dash into the center console, replacing the blocky look of the previous dash. The overall look is competitive with most in the class and reminds us of some nissan and acura interiors. Materials seem to have more depth, as even the hard plastic trim common on lower door and console panels looks better.  lighter materials frame the vents and center stack. The center stack houses the clock, audio and navigation systems, and climate controls. There's also a sizable bin that holds 10 cd jewel cases above the ashtray ahead of the shifter. Splashes of trim grow from the console outward mid-height on the dash and are mirrored on the doors; on cars with woodgrain trim the shifter gets a slice of the same material. The largest is the speedometer, to its left is the tachometer, to its right conjoined water temperature and fuel gauges. In the lower dash to the left of the steering column is a bank of five switch plugs, only two of which are employed in the u. Version; one is an on/off for the esc (electronic stability control), the other the dash-light rheostat. Beyond that is a flip-down storage bin. The ignition key slides into a slot placed where it should be, in the dash to the right of the steering column instead of on the steering column itself, easier and more elegant when starting or shutting off the car.  for 2009, the limited model is available with a voice-recognition navigation system. Redundant controls for the audio are to the lower left-side of the hub. On the other side of the hub are the standard cruise controls, with a helpful cancel function. All stalk functions are straightforward and require no adaptation.  outward visibility is good, although some will find the wide c-pillars constrict quick, over-the-shoulder traffic checks for lane changing. Rear side windows roll all the way down, thanks to small, fixed, rear quarter windows that move the windows' rear tracks forward in the door, ahead of the wheel well. There's a roof-mounted, hinged assist handle inside every door.  seats are comfortable, with adequate bolstering fo. 2008 scion tc review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Restyling freshens fun-to-drive coupe. introductionthe scion tc has been subtly restyled inside and out for 2008. Apple ipod connectivity comes standard along with a pioneer subwoofer. And navigation is now available.  the scion tc is an affordably priced but thoroughly practical and well-equipped sport coupe. It benefits from toyota's attention to quality, durability and reliability. The body panels fit tight and straight, and quality construction is evident. Interior materials are first-rate, and show attention to detail. The bucket seats are comfortable and there's enough room to suit tall drivers. It is quiet, smooth, and plenty powerful. Its steering, ride quality and handling are commendable. A full array of airbags is available to enhance safety.  the scion nameplate may represent toyota's next-generation future, but in some ways the 2008 scion tc brings a welcome blast from the past, when sport coupes were often regarded as a kind of blank canvas for personal expression. This price buys a surprising amount of standard equipment, including air conditioning; reclining front sport bucket seats with cloth upholstery and position memory; height and tilt adjustments for driver's seat; power locks and mirrors with integrated turn signals; a tilt wheel with audio controls; 160-watt pioneer am/fm/cd/mp3 stereo with subwoofer and ipod connectivity; a huge, power-retracting glass sunroof; a two-tiered console; reclining rear seats; keyless entry; engine immobilizer; cargo cover, and a dozen other comfort and convenience goodies. It all rolls on p215/45zr bridgestone potenzas on 17-inch alloy wheels.  the lower-priced spec package is also available with manual 15,300) or automatic 16,100). The idea here is to provide a stripped-down model for tuners and customizers, so they don't pay for fancy parts that they are just going to take off and replace anyway. Spec package models come with downgraded upholstery on less-adjustable seats, non-tilting urethane steering wheel without audio controls, and p205/55r16 tires on steel wheels. They also skip the core model's power windows, cruise control, two-tier console, subwoofer, and engine immobilizer. The panoramic glass roof remains but it does not retract. Colors are limited to super white, flint mica, black sand pearl, and classic silver metallic.  safety features for all tc scions include optional side-impact and side-curtain air bags 650) designed to provide torso and head protection. (head injuries are the leading cause of death in side impacts.) a knee airbag is standard, along with the mandated dual front airbags. Anti-lock brakes and electronic brake-force distribution are standard also, as is a tire-pressure monitor.  options include a premium pioneer sound system with video capabilities 689); and a navigation system 2,250) with seven-inch touch screen. There are no other factory options, but scion dealers offer more than 40 dealer-installed accessories, ranging from shift knobs and satellite radio (either xm or sirius) to a supercharger kit good for 200 horsepower. Special toyota racing development (trd) items include 18- and 19-inch wheels, a lowering kit, struts and shock absorbers, rear anti-roll bar, a high-performance clutch, a quicker shifter, a stainless steel muffler, and a shift-point indicator light kit. walkaroundthe somewhat bland styling of the 2005-07 scion tc was intentional, offering a blank canvas for hot-rodders and customizers. Frankly, we liked its look of purposeful performance. The 2008 scion tc certainly looks more sophisticated, but whether it looks better is a matter of taste.  most changed is the front end, where the headlight housings now contain three sharply defined separate lenses for high beams, projector-type low beams, and amber turn signals, all arranged in a subtle diagonal. The top and bottom grille textures no longer match, with a fussy diagonal-oval mesh up top that fades to solid at the sides; and horizontal slats down below. As before, a thin, led center stop light appears gray until it lights up; and the bottom edge of the bumper sports a prominent horizontal pout.  otherwise the outside isn't much changed, and that's a good thing. Even the standard six-double-spoke alloy wheels are carried over from last year.  the doors are quite long for such a small car, and the door handles are of the reach-around-and-pull variety that we like. The long rear side window suggests a two-door sedan more than a hatchback coupe, and makes the design flow from front to rear gracefully. It filters 97 percent of uv rays and 100 percent of infrared to avoid sunburned occupants. All of the body panels fit tight and straight, and quality flows from every pore. interiorinside the 2008 scion tc are first-rate materials. There aren't a lot of different grains and textures, and the swoopy brushed-metal center stack housing vents, sound system and climate control system are a marvel of modern design. Scion has pumped up the volume a bit for 2008, adding metallic accents that match the center stack to the steering wheel spokes and door-mounted grab handles. The driver's and shotgun seats can be reclined all the way down into what scion calls a sleep position.  the core model's rear seats recline through 10 stops and 45 degrees to convert the interior into a conversation bin. With seats up, there's more than 26 inches of cargo length there; with the second seats dropped, almost 60 inches; and with the front passenger seat folded over, almost 104 inches of cargo length available.  attention to detail is evident in the mechanical seat position memory on the front bucket seats, the 60/40 split folding rear seat, the dead pedal for the driver's left foot, fully closing vents, and a cover for the stereo faceplate.  the three-pod instrument panel is amber-illuminated, deeply tunneled and easy to use, day or night, as are the balance of the instruments and controls. The metal-tone center console features a cast-aluminum temperature control dial flanked by soft-touch electronic buttons and an lcd display showing exterior temperature, seven fan speeds and a clock. Sirius and xm satellite radio are optional.  the head unit allows ipod owners to listen to their tunes through the car speakers and to control song selection and read stored information through the head unit's display. Also standard (on core models) for 2008 is a pioneer six-inch subwoofer with 35-watt maximum power, tuned specifically for the tc. This compact unit is mounted in the under-floor storage area, keeping it out of sight and leaving the cargo floor clear.  the optional premium audio adds the ability to download skins to play on the head unit's organic electroluminescent (oel) faceplate. Pioneer software also allows customers to burn their own images and movies onto a cd and upload them onto the head unit.  the premium audio system comes with rear head unit outputs, allowing the addition of external amps to boost power to additional speakers and subwoofers. Scion claims that none of these modifications will affect the operation of head unit's standard features.  both the standard and premium head units feature scion sound processing (ssp), which allows listeners to choose from three pre-set equalizer settings; automatic sound leveling (asl); and sound retouch technology (srt), which provides clearer cd sound quality. driving impressionthe 2008 scion tc is fun to drive. The engine is quiet, smooth, and plenty powerful in a 2900-pound car; and at full throttle, it sounds potent without being intrusive, because it has a valved muffler that opens up at high rpm and can be worth as much as 5 horsep.

2004 subaru forester review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Recently redesigned, now with a turbo option. introductionthere used to be a poster of ted turner wearing cowboy boots and a charming cocky grin, saying, 'i was country before country was cool.' the subaru forester could borrow that expression and say, 'i was crossover before crossover was cool.'  the forester may have invented that style of semi-suv in 1998, before the word came along. Now the new crossover vehicles are finding their own identities, including higher performance, but the forester isn't letting them get away.  the new 2004 subaru forester 2. 5 xt (t for turbo) brings 210 horsepower to the table and a dazzling 235 pounds-feet of torque for exhilarating acceleration performance.  the rest of the forester line continues to offer reliability, fuel efficiency, cargo room, safety, and its time-tested all-wheel-drive system. Extensively revised for 2003, the second-generation forester is roomier and more upscale than before. It has comfortable, highly supportive seats. It's a better vehicle on treacherous roads than an suv. lineupthe 2004 subaru forester comes in three versions: the basic 2. 5 x 20,895), the well-equipped 2. 5 xs 23,145), and the new high-performance 2. 5 xt 24,970). The x and the xs produce 165 horsepower and 166 pounds-feet of torque, while the turbocharged xt raises the level to 210 and 235.  standard features include a 80-watt stereo with cd player, remote keyless entry system, 16-inch sport wheels, variable intermittent windshield wipers and a trailer harness connector.  the 2. 5 xs adds automatic climate control, electronic brake force distribution (ebd), lower body cladding, leather accents and a six-disc cd changer. All subarus come with all-wheel drive. A limited-slip rear differential is optional. Also available are heated front seats and exterior mirrors and a windshield wiper de-icer.  safety features include abs and pedals that give way in a crash, reducing leg and foot injuries. The airbag system is extensive, including front airbags with dual stages for the passenger, and side-impact airbags in the front. A supporter of tread lightly! It's relatively small, noticeable when parked alongside a mid-size suv like an explorer. It's boxy, as is any such car that uses space so efficiently. There's 7. 5 inches of ground clearance, under a large molded front 5-mph bumper with integrated fog lights and a horizontal air intake at the bottom. The standard roof rack with cross rails is flat black, and the body cladding comes mostly in different shades and textures of gray on different models, but the higher-priced monotone looks best because it doesn't add clutter to the car's shape.  the aluminum hood is sculpted with a slight wide bulge, and the front and rear quarter panels have sculpted lines that flow rearward, and would be more effective without the cladding. The rt features good-looking alloy wheels, called six-spoke but actually 12 as the spokes are grouped in twos.  the vertically triangular taillights frame a large hexagonal rear gate with a lot of glass for good visibility, and which opens with an easy touch. interiorthe seating position is high despite the fact that the forester isn't a tall vehicle. This is nice, in the non-suv department. The optional leather interior looks and feels stylish, and, not surprisingly, the instrument panel and controls are well and efficiently designed, using what subaru calls a motorcycle-style instrument cluster. The driver's seat is highly adjustable and provides good bolstering, while the adjustable steering wheel has excellent range. The driver is afforded panoramic visibility from the big windshield, big side glass, and thin a-pillars. A wide rearview mirror and big outside mirrors provide a good view rearward. The wiper blades are designed to sweep a large area of the windshield clean.  rear-seat passengers get good head and leg room. It earned the highest possible ratings for crashworthiness in 40-mph frontal and 30-mph side impact crash tests by the insurance institute for highway safety, the only small suv to earn that rating in both tests.  the interior materials are nice, though the top of the dash looks like plastic. Three big hvac knobs make it easy to adjust the temperature. The audio controls are on the fussy side, however, and the stereo sounds tinny.  standard features include remote keyless entry, good storage space in the console, a separate storage compartment for the front passenger seat, dual visor vanity mirrors with lids, dual sunglasses storage compartments, illuminated window switches, rear window de-icer, remote release fuel door, two 12-volt outlets located in the front cabin and the cargo area, tie-downs for gear and groceries, power windows and locks, and finally a full-size spare tire. driving impressionthe subaru forester is more fun to drive than any sport-utility vehicle and will run circles around them. It handles like a car and can be driven like one. Subaru's variable valve timing system helps too. One drawback to the xt is its lower fuel mileage of 18/23 mpg epa city/highway with the five-speed, compared to the xs model's 21/27. And the xt requires 91 octane fuel.  the standard engine delivers good acceleration, though it doesn't match the exhilaration of the turbo. Subaru's horizontally opposed engine structure (called a 'boxer') is similar in concept to porsche's. Though powerful, subaru's engine isn't as smooth as some.  the five-speed manual transmission works well, though it feels a ropey and has a long throw. The ride is relatively firm due to the short 99-inch wheelbase. Equal-length axle shafts help eliminate torque steer. Underneath the skin, forester's new body structure is strong and light, further improving handling and reducing stopping distances.  the cabin is quiet, even at triple-digit speeds, as we learned on the high-banked oval at talladega motor speedway. Newly designed suspension struts help reduce noise, vibration and harshness. Believe it or not, the forester is aerodynamic, achieving a 0. 36 coefficient of drag. That helps reduce wind noise and improves fuel economy.  the brakes are excellent. We didn't experience any fade while braking hard for the first infield turn off of the oval lap after lap.  later, we tested xs at mudfest near seattle, the northwest automotive press writers' annual event for new and redesigned suvs. There were more than 30 suvs of all sizes there, and the forester xs was the hands-down winner in the slalom. It felt like a sports car as it weaved through the cones at more than 40 mph, when some of the. Climate Control✔ Power Windows✔ CD Changer✔ CD Player✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Alloy Wheels

2004 acura mdx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Power has increased, and a more compact five-speed automatic transmission shifts even more smoothly than before. Acura has updated the optional navigation system and added a rearview camera that engages when the transmission is in reverse. A dvd entertainment system with wireless infrared headphones is now available.  for 2004, mdx gets another round of updates. This is what the auto industry calls a mid-cycle revision, and the improvements are as extensive as any undertaken so far. Horsepower and torque increase, thanks to a new dual-exhaust system. This so-called luxury suv remains one of the best values in the class. lineupthe mdx is an acura, so it follows the brand's all-inclusive price strategy, with limited options. It's offered in a single trim level, powered by a 3. 5-liter, 265-hp v6 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.  mdx 36,400) comes standard with a long list of luxury and convenience features, including many that are extra-cost options on its competitors: leather seating surfaces and leather door inserts; keyless remote entry; power windows, door locks and mirrors; power tilt-and-slide moonroof; cruise control; seven-speaker am/fm/cassette stereo with in-dash cd player; power adjustable front seats; alloy wheels and a multi-function digital trip computer. For 2004, there's also a standard tire pressure monitoring system that uses sensors in the valve stem of each wheel to alert the driver when tire pressure drops significantly below the recommended level.  even with a host of improvements, 2004 mdx prices reflect a modest price increase of $700, or less than 2 percent compared to 2003. The system comes complete with two infrared (ir) wireless headphones and a wireless remote control. Kids dig it.  the dvd-based navigation system 2200) needs only one disc to cover the entire continental u. Recent enhancements include voice recognition and upgraded graphics. It looks sturdy and stable with a wider, firmer stance than some competitors. The styling updates for 2004 don't do much to alter the basic look.  the signature acura grille, now with a satin chrome finish, forms the centerpiece for a new, more tapered front end. The mdx's headlights are more angular than before; new projection-type beams enhance both illumination and appearance. There's a chin spoiler integrated into the front bumper to move air smoothly to the sides of the car and improve aerodynamics. The rear end has been updated with new, larger taillights and dual exhaust tips.  yet even with these updates, the mdx still looks like an mdx. Limited overhang at either end contributes to a dense, compact demeanor that belies this suv's heft and somewhat exaggerates the size of the mdx's mid-section. Some believe the large greenhouse adds to the straightforward sense and strong presence. Others claim it makes the mdx seem more like a minivan than a big suv.  what isn't obvious except in a body-off view is the duality of construction under the mdx. It is both unibody and body on frame. This centaur-like approach gives uncommon rigidity and strength gained from longitudinal rails with eight box-section cross members. This is the thinking engineers' path to making a car/truck both a car and a truck, whichever is appropriate to the occasion. The effect is noise, vibration and harshness control on par with a car, and the load-and stress-management characteristics of a truck. The finish inside is excellent, with new titanium-look trim for 2004. The materials are generally high grade, and the fit and matching of various panels is first-rate.  airy, perforated leather adorns the seats, side panels, steering wheel and shift knob. There is nothing swoopy or eye-popping about the instrument panel, just easily read instruments with an unobstructed view. Simple, large knobs are easy to operate whether that hand is wearing mittens or has long fingernails. The overall sense is the serenity of simplicity.  the air bag fits flat into the passenger-side dash. Sun visors have extensions for those sharp shafts of sun angling low at dawn and dusk. The back-up video camera with the navigation system is at least as useful as the more common, beep-beep-beep systems that warn of hard-to-see obstacles with electronic sound or readout. Bottom line, this reverse-view camera is a good thing, but it takes some getting used to: first, to get comfortable with the extreme fish-eye view, and second, to trust it. The wide panoramic images on the display screen tend to distort depth. A convenient walk-in feature slides the mdx's entire second seat forward with the touch of a lever, located on the curb side. This slider has been improved for 2004 by extending forward travel 40 percent, making entry to the third row even simpler. When not in use, both the second and third rows fold to disappear completely into the floor, leaving a flat surface with no protrusions to scratch luggage or inhibit cargo loading. The seats split for a varied mix of people and stuff.  with the second and third seats stowed, there's room for a ton of stuff. With 81. 5 cubic feet of cargo space, the mdx dwarves five-passenger competitors such as the bmw x5 (54. 4 cubic feet) and infiniti fx (64. 5). It beats all but the volvo xc90 (84. 9 cubic feet) among seven-passenger competitors. Mdx also delivers 4,500 pounds of boat-towing capacity.  the split air-conditioning system is one of the more impressive features. Not only can those in back have a different temperature than the front-seat riders, but one zone can get heat while another gets air conditioning. Every seat in the house has a shoulder harness as well as a lap belt. (many suvs do not come with a shoulder belt in the rear center position.) anchors for child seats are everywhere. Lots of cup holders, too.  we like the navigation system for its intuitive simplicity. Indeed, this may be the best gps-guided system going. A novel capability, and one uniquely appropriate for a vehicle equipped to seek out uncharted outbacks, is a feature that leaves electronic bread crumbs on screen. Its highway manners are excellent. It corners well for a vehicle of its heft, though without the keen turn-in of the bmw x5. Mdx feels extremely stable and as untippable as a rhino.  its 3. 5-liter, 24-valve vte.
